Tunisia ready to host TICAD 8 (Bouden)

Tunisia is ready to host the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8), to be held from August 27 to 28, 2022, at the Convention Center, said on 6 July 2022, Prime Minister Najla Bouden.

Speaking at a press briefing of the National Organising Committee of TICAD8, Bouden recalled that this conference will focus on three axes, namely global development, the fight against economic gaps and the construction of more stable and resilient societies in the African continent.

This event will be the ideal framework to discuss ways and mechanisms to raise the level of the African- Japanese partnership, she said.

She added that the objective is to ensure the economic and social recovery of the country, and thus to achieve the objectives of sustainable development, as well as the objectives and priority areas of the priority agenda of the African Union.

"This is an opportunity to discover new opportunities for cooperation and creation of startups in sectors such as digital technologies, scientific research, green economy, human development, "she said.

For the Prime Minister, the Afro-Japanese partnership will not be limited only to the economic and investment aspects, it will cover all the human dimensions based essentially on solidarity and equitable relations.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi, said that the conference programme will include a summit of heads of state and government and representatives of international institutions, whose number is about fifty.

An economic conference that will bring together nearly 300 Japanese, African and Tunisian companies, as well as 10 parallel activities (conferences and workshops) in the economic and scientific fields, are on the agenda.

For the FM, the success of this meeting will enhance the image of Tunisia, already ready, despite the difficult conditions, to host African delegations and representatives of international organisations and businessmen and businesswomen.

On July 16, 2020, the Embassy of Japan in Tunisia had officially announced the organisation of TICAD 8, in Tunisia in 2022. It is the second African country to host this event dedicated to cooperation between Japan and the African continent, after Kenya in 2016.

Tunisia had obtained the agreement to host the "Ticad 8", following the work of the 33rd Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union meeting in Addis Ababa on February 9 and 10, 2020.

Initiated by the Government of Japan since 1993, this international conference aims to accelerate policy dialogues between African leaders and development partners on the challenges facing the continent.

It is a multilateral forum bringing together Japan and African countries, as well as international organisations, development partner countries, private companies and civil society organisations involved in Africa's development.
