Tunisia aspires to become gateway to Africa in tripartite cooperation (Minister of Finance)

Tunisia aspires to become the gateway to Africa in Tunisian-African-Japanese tripartite cooperation in the scientific, technical and communications fields, said Minister of Finance Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia.

Speaking at the opening of a seminar "TICAD 8: A lever for financing the African private sector", the Minister of Finance added that Tunisia and Japan share longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation

Nemsia was quoted in a Finance Ministry statement as stressing the need to draw on this initiative, which represents a major opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and explore new opportunities for partnership between Japan and African countries.

She, in this context, reviewed the efforts made by Tunisia to ensure the success of the "Tokyo International Conference on African Development" (TICAD 8) to be held in Tunisia in August 2022.

Tunisia is the second African country to organise this event after Kenya in 2016.

Tunisia had secured the agreement to host the "TICAD 8", after the 33rd Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) held on February 9 and 10, 2020 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

TICAD7 was organised, in 2019, in the Japanese city of Yokohama, in the presence of more than 10,000 participants, including 42 African leaders from 53 African countries, 52 development partner countries, 108 heads of international and regional organisations and representatives of civil society and the private sector.
